Federal law requires political committees to use their best efforts to obtain and report the name, mailing address, occupation, and employer for each individual whose contributions aggregate in excess of $200 in an election cycle.
An individual may contribute up to $7,000 ($3,500 to the primary election; $3,500 to the general election). Couples may contribute $14,000 ($7,000 to the primary election; $7,000 to the general election) from a joint account, but such a contribution requires both signatures.
