Federal election law requires political committees to use best efforts to report the name, mailing address, occupation, and name of employer of individuals whose contributions exceed $200 during an election cycle. An individual may not contribute more than a total of $6,600 (designating up to $3,300 to the primary election and up to $3,300 to the general election) to the committee. Married couples can donate a maximum of $13,200, designating up to $6,600 to the primary election and up to $6,600 to the general election, provided such limits apply, if the check is drawn from a joint account and both signatures are provided. Partnerships are also limited to $3,300 per election and must include the names of all partners with their percentage of ownership. Federal law prohibits contributions to the committee from the general treasury funds of a corporation, labor organizations or national banks (including corporate or other business entity credit cards), from any person contributing another’s funds, from a Federal government contractor, or from a foreign national who lacks permanent resident status.
